Why use Alpaca Fur?
Why use Alpaca Fur?
Ethically and Socially Responsible Fur
Ethically responsible…
Over 80% of the Alpaca fur in the world is found in the remote Peruvian Andes. With less than 4 million animals in Peru, Alpacas are highly protected by SENASA (a Peruvian government agency) and it is illegal under any circumstance to kill them, thus the sales of fleece and hides are carefully scrutinized.
Unfortunately, due to the extreme living conditions of living (high altitude and little to no food), around 10% of the babies in the herd die of natural causes (sickness, extreme weather changes or genetics).
To make up for their losses, ranchers are able to sell these hides (sold as “Baby Alpaca”) and use the meat for food.
Socially responsible…
In addition to be ethically responsible, we are proud to be socially responsible as we provide those farming communities in the Andean region a way to support themselves. We only work with Peruvian artisans for all our handmade creations.
